I have to say that I absolutely COULD NOT live without my new Portable External Hard Drive. For years I've had an external hard drive but it wasn't something that was easily used on other devices. It was not easily portable. After looking at several different models, I decided to purchase the Seagate 1TB Slim Portable External Hard Drive. Xlsx to xls converter free download software. Since I use both on a daily basis, I have found that having this hard drive is better than having any flash drive to easily share files between the two. I am a 63 year old man and am legally blind. I have had one of these for over a year with ABSOLUTELY no issues. I wanted another one to store movies that were ISO files. The new one looks just a little bit different but it works the same. I use both of them for my lap top, which uses Windows 8.1 and a desk top that uses Windows 10. Just plugged in and started saving files with no real set up needed. As far as speed, some folks just need to have a little patience. Or, spend more money. Really liked the old Seagate Flex-Go I had, but its getting old and needed an upgrade. Contacted a friend who is an IT pro. He recommended the Seagate Hard Drive he has had for the last two years - with no problems. Looking for the model he had, I believe this Backup Plus 1TB is actually a newer model. When I typed it in the search engine, Walmart came up - who considers this model a Best Choice/Seller AND it was on sale for only $60!!! Free shipping, shows up in my mailbox, open the box, plug it in and in only a couple minutes I was up and running again. The rest of my life should work out this well. Seagate also sells a version of the Backup Plus Slim called the Ultra Touch. The main differences between the two products are a higher price point for the Ultra Touch – $90 at Amazon for the 2TB model, $70 for the 1TB – and a different design that involves a piece of fabric in lieu of the brushed metal finish. Design There’s nothing particularly noteworthy about the Backup Plus Slim – its design is utilitarian and certainly isn’t trying to win any awards. Seagate opted for a plastic chassis with a thin brushed metal cover on top. Other than the Seagate logo and a white status light, there’s hardly anything that catches the eye here. As for its size, the Backup Plus Slim is absolutely tiny at 115 x 78 x 12mm with a weight of only 126g, meaning you can truly carry it around in your pocket. There doesn’t seem to be any easy way to pry open the case should you want to extract the hard disk drive. It comes with a 46cm USB 3.0 cable with an additional cap that converts one end to a USB Type-C connector. Here’s how the Seagate Backup Plus Slim performed in our benchmark tests: CrystalDiskMark: 141MBps (read); 137MBps (write) Atto: 144MBps (read, 256mb); 137MBps (write, 256mb) This product uses the old ST2000LM007 drive, as we mentioned, a disk which has two 1TB platters spinning at 5,400 RPM with 128MB cache.
